CAF Champions League: The Final Group Stage Drama Unfolds

By Ibrahim Okorie

The CAF Champions League is entering its most decisive weekend. With only three clubs already assured of their places in the quarter-finals—Pyramids FC, Al Ahly, and the surprise package Stade Malien—five tickets remain up for grabs. The sixth and final round of group matches promises tension, heartbreak, and triumph across the continent.

Group A: Duel for Survival

  • Pyramids FC (13 points) are safe and will play without pressure against Power Dynamos.

  • The real battle lies between RS Berkane and Power Dynamos, both on 7 points. Berkane host already-eliminated Rivers United, while Dynamos must outperform the Moroccans to survive.

Group B: AS FAR Under Pressure

  • Al Ahly (9 points) are qualified but still chasing top spot.

  • AS FAR (8 points) face a daunting trip to Cairo, while Young Africans (5 points) must defeat JS Kabylie and hope AS FAR stumble.

Group C: The Group of Chaos

Every team can still qualify:

  • Al Hilal Omdurman (8 points) host Saint-Éloi Lupopo (5 points).

  • Mamelodi Sundowns (6 points) clash with MC Alger (7 points) in South Africa. One slip could change everything.

Group D: Tunisian Showdown

  • Stade Malien (11 points) are already through.

  • Espérance de Tunis and Petro Atlético (both 6 points) face each other in a winner-takes-all duel in Tunis.

  • Simba SC are eliminated but will finish their campaign against Stade Malien.

Ovation’s Take

This final day embodies the spirit of African football—unpredictable, passionate, and fiercely competitive. From Cairo to Tunis, Accra to Algiers, fans will witness the drama of qualification battles that define the CAF Champions League.
